Massage Therapy Techniques

Therapeutic Massage

A combination of multiple techniques to achieve relief of muscular tension, which is very effective. It can best be described as relaxing and not as aggressive as a deep tissue experience. Although massages can be very relaxing, it can also assist in changing postural alignment, recovering from surgery, and managing chronic pain. Our ability to assess the person as a whole allows us to identify the appropriate style of massage for the individual. We have a staff of highly trained therapist who have the skills to safely work with a variety of physical ailment and diseases.

Myofascial Release

When you’ve experienced tension in your body, but have had minimal results with previous massage or deep tissue work, it is usually because your muscles are tight and the fascia is bound up. This work can be gentle, but is incredibly effective.  “Unwinding” the tight fascia in the body can release the tension you’ve been feeling. Fascia is a fibrous connective tissue your ligaments and tendons are made of.  It is also what holds everything in place inside your body and is present throughout your entire body.  This particular style of myofascial release was and continues to be developed by John Barnes.

Pregnancy Massage

Your whole body is changing to accommodate the beautiful life growing inside you. This means your hips are moving, your lower back is carrying more weight, and your feet are tired and starting to swell at the end of the day. You deserve to enjoy this time in your life, and we will make sure you feel as wonderful as you should with all the extra stress and challenges that comes with pregnancy.

TRIGGER POINT THERAPY

Trigger points are points in a tight muscle that can be painful and create a larger sensation in the area surrounding ( or even a distance away ) from the origin point of where a therapist or yourself presses into a muscle. Trigger point therapy can help if you are having a spot in your back, for example, that feels tight and also has a feeling of pain, tingling, hot, or pinching kinds of sensations to name a few. Many people find relief from this because of the way it helps the muscles relax and targets specific points of pain to help manage the symptoms people are experiencing, using varying depths of pressure and durations of time to create relief.

ASHIATSU – BAREFOOT MASSAGE

Ashiatsu is a style of massage therapy conducted with the feet. The tradition of using the feet for massage spans the globe for centuries. The broad surface of the feet can be incredibly soothing and relaxing. The therapist is able to long gliding strokes to help lengthen and stretch tight muscles.  Clients often cannot tell the difference in contact between the skilled Ashiatsu therapist and other styles of massage, such as Deep tissue and Swedish. Ashiatsu can deliver a very even deep tissue experience with less of the sharpness and elbow provides, while reaching the deep adhered muscles.

DEEP TISSUE MASSAGE

Deep Tissue is exclusive to the experienced massage client. It is the deep manipulation of skeletal muscle and its associated connective tissues. When you have deep tension and severe knots causing headaches and numbness, a deep tissue massage can break up muscle fibers to release the build of toxins and lactic acid that’s causing so much discomfort. As recommended after all massages, drinking plenty of water and a detox bath is essential for post-massage recovery.

SPORTS MASSAGE

Are you having a hard time keeping up with or achieving your fitness goals? Sports massage is designed to increase range of motion, help your muscles recover from demanding physical activities like cycling, weight lifting, and any sport or intense workout regimen. We provide safe assisted stretching to go beyond your maximum flexibility, as well as break down the adhesions that are gluing your muscles together and restricting your movements. This leaves you free to run faster, stretch farther and lift more easily.

Swedish Massage

Swedish is the basic relaxation of muscular tension. This is perfect for those wanting to relax and get out from under lingering stiffness. With my smooth touch and flowing motion, you may even fall asleep on my table! You will leave de-stressed and ready to enjoy the rest of your day.

Lymphatic Drainage Massage

If you have just had surgery, deal with chronic inflammation, swelling, or edema, lymphatic drainage massage could be very helpful for keeping the pain that comes along with those situations at ease. There are a few different types of lymphatic massage, but for the most part lymphatic massage can be quite gentle and relaxing. Usually performed with very light and gentle touches, it can be soothing, especially when the therapist begins to stimulate the lymphatic movement. Some of the more common uses for this technique is if you have just had cosmetic surgery of many types, surgery from an injury or ailment, a sprained or swollen ankle, and for the many other injuries or inflammatory issues.

Spa Massage

The luxury of a spa massage includes techniques such as Swedish while incorporating heat therapies such as hot stones, hot towels, and heat packs to help melt stubborn tension away. There are sensational strokes designed to soothe away stress and even help you to fall asleep. Spa Massage may even incorporate Aromatherapy customized to the client’s desired outcome.

Cupping

Cupping Therapy is an ancient form of healing brought to the modern world with the purpose of increasing circulation and lymphatic flow, and promoting healing. Often stubborn muscles may not respond to the more common pressing strokes, cupping provides a pulling on the tissues allowing them to release.

What Our Happy Clients Are Saying...

"The massage therapist at Creating a Sustainable You are amazing, I always feel relaxed and rejuvenated. They listen to where your problem areas are, asses the best massage techniques, and tell you how they are going to help your body...and they make you feel so much better. Thank you Creating A Sustainable You."

- Rebecca F. -

"I have tried multiple massage places in Chico but none have been as good as this place. I was referred by Dr. Jason and I am so thankful for the massage that I received. My therapist was Victoria and she explained me everything, asked me if I was comfortable and gave me a wonderful wonderful massage. I felt super light afterwards and I can't thank you enough for the same."

- Sakshi Gandi -

"In 2018, I underwent shoulder surgery and hip replacement surgery. After surgery I had difficulty walking and painful tingling in my arm. One month after surgery I begin weekly massages with Isaac along with physical therapy exercises. Within 2 months I was walking with no pain and the tingling in my arm was completely gone. The weekly massages greatly contributed to the healing process and also helped with the pain, stiffness, and muscle tightness. I would not have been so successful with these major surgeries without the professional care and support I have received from Creating A Sustainable You."

- Kristina R. -

"This is just a tiny love letter to Creating a Sustainable You. After only 7 hours worth of massage treatments with Isasc over the course of a month, I was able to relieve my horrific pain. Isaac actually figured out what was wrong with my lower back before my Chiropractor did. (My chronically tight iliopsoas was the culprit, not piriformis syndrome.) Whether you are struggling with chronic or acute pain, please visit Creating a Sustainable You. The folks here know what they're doing, and they're happy to help."

- Kirsten Taylor-Klink -

"The place is very clean and welcoming and the staff are very friendly! The massage therapist I had Kayla was very good and kind. They also offered “cupping” with the massage (for no additional charge!) which was new to me but I found it helpful for relief of muscle pain. I will definitely be going back!"

- Rob Ritter -

Creating a Sustainable You is a great company who cares about the whole person. Physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. They do a great job at addressing what is giving the most problems. I have been working with Kayla and she has continued to address issues with my ankle and migraines in a very compassionate and knowledgeable way. Kayla goes above and beyond of what is asked of a masseuse. She make sure that the body is aligned with the spirit after every session and also has given outside resources to help with the physical problems I have been having. Creating a Sustainable You offers multiple services and Kayla has incorporated a few of them in our sessions - it's great to know someone takes their job as seriously as Kayla, especially when it comes to helping me feel my optimal self. I would definitely suggest Creating a Sustainable You and suggest Kayla if you plan to get a massage."

- Justin Shupe-

"Kayla at Creating A Sustainable You provides an exceptional deep tissue massage. She listens to her client and is attentive to their needs. I felt completely relaxed in her presence and would recommend her as a therapist to someone who may be hurting from an injury or just in need of a great massage!"

- Bonny B. -

"Rachel is able to do Deep tissue massages which is great because that is what I need. I plan on going back again."

- Antionette W. -

"I went for the first time today and had a two hour massage with Issac. When I came it, the receptionist was super kind and helpful with getting me checked in. I filled out the paperwork since it was my first visit, and then Issac took me back. We talked about my goals for the session and got started. The entire time he kept checking in on me, making sure the pressure was okay, reminding me to take deep breaths. If I ever needed more or less pressure he obliged. He made sure I was comfortable the entire time and even made sure to explain certain pressure points or work areas at times. After our session, he showed me some exercises I could do at home as well. I booked another appointment with him while I was checking out. This was hands down the best massage I have ever had."

- Katie H. -

"I love this place. Everyone that works there is incredibly friendly and efficient, Isaac is the nicest and most effective massage therapist imaginable, and I am not going to need carpal tunnel surgery that the orthopedic surgeon told me I needed because of deep tissue massage, myofascial release massage. Highly highly recommend."
